Dextromethorphan, mostly known as DXM, is an ingredient used in many anti-cold and cough-suppressing over the counter drugs. It is supposed to be drastic and effective when it comes to these conditions, especially when used in small doses. However, like Ketamine, this is also an ingredient with anesthetic abilities; therefore the effects of DXM could be serious and long term.
According to the experts, there are surprisingly big numbers of people who abuse the drug, doing trips. The effects of DXM occur when the drug is not taken according to guidelines and instructions. In most cases, the products and drugs that contain this substance are sold without a doctor’s prescription, which makes abuse easier.
DXM abuse can cause a vast array of effects and they are divided into two categories: the short term and long term ones. Confusion, dizziness, slurred speech and blurred vision are the most known and common short term results of the DXM abuse. However, in many cases more serious and severe effects might occur: nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, abdominal pain and irritation, numbness of hands and feet, disorientation, hallucinations, out of body experiences, loss of motor control and weird visual sensations.
