Everyone has gone through difficult situations. People have experienced pain and misery. How then can we move on to experience the glory of our elderly years and enjoy what life still has to offer if we dwell on the things that may have scarred us. If there is one thing certain in this word, that is death. Before our lives come to a full circle, we must learn to take advantage of every opportunity and live it to the fullest. We all have a purpose and if we don’t do what we are meant to do, we will grow old to be the miserable old person that has been personified in many movies.

How do you feel at this moment? Does your body feel younger than its actual years? If you have an issue with your actual age, change your thoughts. By having an attitude adjustment, your life will change dramatically. Everything about you will become better: your health, your personality, and even the lines on your skin. You should know that the whole world surrounds you with joy and that the good things in life are served to you on a silver platter.

To enjoy your life to the fullest and to always feel youthful inside, you need to wake in the morning and rid yourself of those ugly thoughts. Instead, think about your blessings. There are so many things you should be thankful for: the air you breathe, the bed you sleep in, you family, and a million other things. Start appreciating every single one, and when you do, the blessings will just naturally come your way. If you want your life to take a turn for the better, see the good in everything.

Despite your old age, you can still stay active. Don’t let the humdrum of your daily routines get you down. In fact, instead of sulking and doing what is ordinary, go out of your way and invigorate your body, mind, and soul. You will always feel better about yourselves when you actively participate in life. You always have a choice. Either you take control and enjoy life in the face of aging or to grow old and miserable both inside and out. Past mistakes should be seen for what they truly are, and that is the past. Learn to go beyond the wrong that has happened and see these as learning experiences. The wounds should heal and the scars should fade. Otherwise, you will look beaten and battered. You let the enemy one, and at the end of the day, this is not what you want for yourself.

There are two kinds of old age. One that affects the physical body and the other that goes straight to your mental health. Nobody can stop the aging process of the physical side, but you can certainly fight the latter if you keep the mind agile and active. Any individual who is able to meet the challenges of old age is the real hero. Real life begins when you have wisdom by your side. Lean to enjoy what you have, because only then will you be triumphant against aging.

In this day and age, we all experience stress and anxiety in one form or another on a daily basis. Historically, stress was good — it helped our ancestors escape from danger or gave them the strength and power to fight off predators. Changes occurred in their bodies that gave them the ability to focus on what needed to be accomplished and the strength to do it. Those same hormones work in our bodies today to help us during stressful times. The big difference between the stress and anxiety our ancestors experienced back then and what we experience now is the fact that their stress was fleeting. The stress and anxiety we experience today is constant and ongoing which puts our system into overdrive leading to a host of life-aging health problems such as heart attacks, cancer and accidents.

So how does constant stress and anxiety take its aging toll on our bodies? In response to stress and anxiety, a series of chemicals are produced in our brain that travel through our blood system and affect every system in our bodies. These chemicals interact with stress hormones which trigger signals in our bodies to respond to the stress and then our bodies return to normal. But that is only if the stress and anxiety is over as well. If the stress hormones are allowed to continue traveling through your body unregulated, the following happens:

–Your body is unable to turn off the stress response and that can lead to more anxiety and depression which can cause low sex drive and high blood pressure — both of which are associated with aging.

–You may experience other potentially fatal health problems such as elevated LDL (lousy cholesterol) or triglycerides and reduced HDL (healthy cholesterol) and a surge in stress-related chemicals that cause you to eat and eventually lead to conditions such as diabetes and obesity (major body agers).

–Stress and anxiety decrease your ability to fight infection, suppresses your immune system and makes you more susceptible to disease.

–Prolonged stress and anxiety hinder the release of growth hormones that your body needs to help combat aging-related diseases and conditions.

Stress and anxiety have a cascading effect on our health. They increase the risk of arterial aging, damage our immune system and make us prime candidates for life-ending accidents, as well as affect our mental health.

So don’t take stress and anxiety lightly, they are major biological drivers of aging. Learn to manage the stress and anxiety in your life today. The faster you do it, the “younger” you’ll be.
