Now being disabled and wheelchair bound brings its own challenges but my latest visit to my dentist and my doctor proved to be a work of transportation and manoeuvring par excellence. Firstly let me explain that for the past year all transferring from wheelchair to toilet or bed has been carried out with the aid of a mobile hoist. As a result of my last fall I haven’t walked for a year.

Now, the doctor’s visit was the easiest as we arranged for him to carry out his investigation into my state of health at my home. So I was duly hoisted onto my bed for the inspection. Blood pressure, ears, nose and throat were all inspected and found to be in working order. This was done with the doctor and my wife scrambling all over me and the bed to get access to the selected orifice. Continue reading ‘At war with dentists and doctors’ »

The purpose of this report is to analyse the role of fruits and vegetables in the prevention of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Introduction

Recent studies have indicated strong relationship between fruit and vegetable consumptions and reduced risk of certain cancers and cardiovascular disease.

A diet high in vegetables and fruits is believed to be associated with reducing the risk of cancer of the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, lung, colon, rectum and some other cancers.
However there is no specific reason or evidence to clarify the mechanism and also the results of various researches in the roles of fruit and vegetables do not all agree.

Nutritionists recommend the consumption of a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables per day (except for potatoes and other starchy tubers) for the prevention of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity, in addition to the prevention and reduction of several micronutrient deficiencies, especially in less developed countries.

A number of scientific evidences have implied low fruit and vegetable intake is a major risk factor for several non-communicable diseases.
Increasing fruit and vegetable intake by as little as one serving per day can have a great influence on heart disease risk. Continue reading ‘Inhibiting effects of fruits and vegetables on cancer and heart disease’ »

The biggest cause of stroke is hypertension, or high blood pressure. It is characterized by readings of 140/90 and above. Hypertension causes damage to the major organs, such as the kidneys, heart, and eyes. It can also cause weakened areas in the blood vessels to burst, leading to the leakage of blood into the brain. This results in hemorrhagic stroke.

When vessels narrow and shut off blood supply, this is an Ischemic stroke. It is caused by plaque build up in the arteries or a blood clot that grows to eventually block the artery preventing blood flow to the rest of the brain. These blood clots can come from another part of the body or form in the artery itself. Continue reading ‘What Causes Stroke – Learn the Various Factors That Cause Stoke’ »
