Detoxification is removing the harmful chemicals that are trapped inside your body. Every time you take a breath of air you are inhaling toxins. Every time you take a bite of food you are eating toxins. No matter what you do in this life there are toxic consequences for your body. In most cases our bodies have natural defenses that are good enough to cope.

Of course, some things we do allow more toxins into our body that others. Consuming alcohol or taking drugs or smoking cigarettes, all these things push vastly more toxins into your body than you would otherwise have. Prevention is better than cure, so don’t consume these products in the first place.

It’s an easy thing to say about smoking cigarettes. Everyone knows there are bad for you, and I don’t think anyone could give any benefits to smoking.

The same cannot be said for alcohol and drugs. Some people will say alcohol and drugs are bad for you and there is no positive benefit to using either. Other people will give you a list as long as there arms about the benefits they get for taking drugs or using alcohol.

A disturbing fact sheet…

Pain relievers are medicines that reduce or relieve headaches, sore muscles, arthritis or related aches and pains. There are many different pain reliever drugs. While some of them are prescription drugs, yet many of these are available over-the-counter (OTC) e.g. aspirin, naproxen (Aleve) & ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) etc. Many such non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs are available only at prescribed doses. Some of the most powerful pain relievers come under the category of narcotics.

In the United States, data generated by some recent surveys on drug abuse is quite disturbing. Data from the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse found that almost 3 million adolescents and about 7 million young adults from ages 18 to 25 had used prescription drugs for non-medical purposes at least once in their lives.

Today teenagers are not using as much cocaine, crack, LSD, and ecstasy as the teenagers of the 1960’s. Nowadays, kids have found other ways and means to get that high; painkillers & other prescription drugs are being abused at record levels as is aptly indicated in NSDUH data. This up coming generation of prescription drug abusers has been given the name “Generation Rx!”

It can be extremely difficult for a person suffering from bipolar mania to cope with the illness and function in their daily lives as well as their social relationships. The hopeless feeling and lack of interest in life the depression brings is crippling to the patient. Many patients commit suicide in the depression stage of bipolar.
The opposite of depression is mania. This is an extreme high euphoric feeling. In this stage, the patient is overly excited, may talk rapidly, and have an unrealistic view of his or her own abilities. This state of excitement and rush of energy can lead to rash impulsive behavior. During this stage, the patient can be a danger to themselves and others.
One of the best solutions for helping bipolar patients cope with these excessive mood swings is by joining bipolar support groups. This will enable them to discuss their own experiences and ways of dealing with them openly by interacting with others who have the same problem. It is also useful to learn how others deal with their mania and depressions and other problems.

Everyone knows that the trade in hard drugs is big business. Few are aware that the business involved in prescription drugs is even bigger. The pharmaceutical industry is one of the fastest growing in the world. Millions of pounds are spent on advertising, and the promotion of brand names to doctors has a great influence on what product will be eventually prescribed to patients. The pharmaceutical industry spends on average over twice as much on advertising as it does on research and development of new products. In many Western countries there is one drug company representative for every eight doctors.

and Diet Management (2009 – 2014)

Report description

The global weight management market continues to grow despite the current downturn in the global economy and is estimated to reach US$586 billion in 2014 from about US$363 billion in 2009. The driving force for the global weight management market is the dramatic increase in the obese population. These are the main target segment of the weight management market. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/Market-Research-Reports/Global-Weight-Loss-and-Diet-Management.html )

Consumer focus on improving quality of life has increased the sale of products that claim to manage or reduce weight. The existing players in the food and beverage (F&B) market, as well as in the drugs and supplement market, have accordingly expanded their market scope to increase revenues by targeting this segment. Marginal weight loss can be attained through personal efforts, however, overweight and obesity are increasingly becoming a concern that require the intervention of professionals and other service providers. Addiction is an obsession or a compulsion towards anything. It can be a physical dependence or a psychological dependence such as in the case of drug addictions of alcohol, drugs etc. The medical terminology states that addiction is the sate in which the body becomes dependent on something such as drugs for functioning normally and develops a physical dependence on it. It is generally associated with increased drug tolerance with time. And if it becomes unavailable or is removed suddenly from the body there shoots a set of signs and symptoms of withdrawal and anxiety. There can also be a physiological addiction as it may not be any illicit drug which the person is addictive to but the abuse of some prescription drug which has become an addiction with time. Another case of addiction can be psychological dependence. It is an addiction, but is not generally recognized as a problem of addiction by doctors for e.g.: compulsive overeating.

Physical dependence is induced by the sudden discontinuation of the drugs as opiates, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, alcohol or nicotine. Other no recognizable similar additives are beta-blockers, antidepressants etc. Such dependency is the main reason for the continuation and primary motivator of such drugs. It is mainly the ability to induce pleasure that makes the person so addictive initially. And later on the reason changes from attaining pleasure to reduce anxiety caused by its absence. This way it becomes compulsive to use all such additives. Nicotine found loosely in the form of tobacco is one of the major addictive substances ever discovered.

Nowadays, it has become quite difficult for a large number of people to make the both ends meet and keep their heads above water especially because of the worldwide economic gloom. Often people seem to leave ‘no stone unturned’ to pay their bills as well as meet some other expenses.

For this very reason, everyone finds himself in troubled waters, and look for the best possible way to escape from the bitter and harsh realties of life. Many people find relief in the bony arms of alcohol and other drugs, and take no time to turn into an addict from being an occasional drinker or a smoker.

It becomes almost impossible to realise when and how your loved one became the victim of such curses. Most of the families cannot see their loved ones in such a miserable condition, and often seem to put efforts in getting their loved ones out of this curse.

Almost every drug addict disagrees that she/he needs drug rehabilitation. Therefore, it chiefly depends on family and friends to take the initiative for their dear and near one and arrange a drug rehab for them if they really care for their loved ones and want them to return to their normal life as early as possible.

Drug rehab clinics have proved very effective to help all those who want to overcome their alcohol or drug addiction. Most of these rehab centres have all those means, which are considered quite essentials to get rid of alcohol, drug or gambling addictions.

Phase II clinical trials of tanezumab in osteoarthritis, chronic low back pain and interstitial cystitis have demonstrated the drug’s analgesic efficacy across these three chronic pain settings. Despite safety concerns and a high price point, it expects tanezumab to enjoy a significant first-in-class advantage in a potentially lucrative novel area of pain therapy. Addiction, in medical terms is a condition in which a human body depends on something for its normal functioning, which further leads to physical dependence. Addiction triggers as a mental issue and proceeds to a physical reliance. In such a state a person tends to rely on a typical substance or a drug that seems to give him relief. An escalated drug tolerance is what we know as addiction. One can even get addicted to prescribed drugs; it need not necessarily be due to drug abuse.

It is quite tough a job to answer whether all drugs are addictive or not, it depends on how one defines addiction. Some feel that psychological dependence on a drug or any other substance is addiction. It can be anything. Some people are inclined towards these things and feel that they cannot live without the influence of the substance. This is more of problem with the person who is using it than the substance or drug itself. Dependence is after all a human nature; we cannot blame a drug just because we depend on it. This has more to do with the mental state of one’s mind than the physical. Continue reading ‘Are All Drugs Addictive?’ »
