Stress is a pervasive problem in society Today.

Everywhere you look people are talking about the doom and gloom in the economy, job losses etc. People are wondering how they will pay their mortgage what they will tell their children about the future on top of all the normal stresses and strains we deal with in everyday life.

When we are stressed out and worried constantly we can experience symptoms like irritability, muscle tension, sleeping difficulties etc. We cannot function at out best and cannot see clearly the decisions to make that are beneficial for us.

I have outlined some tips below that can help if you stressed out. They can help bring you back to balance and release some tension.

1)If you are bombarded by bad news from the media about unemployment figures and a failing economy you should remember a couple of things.

Firstly you need to remember that the media thrives on sensationalising things. They are there to sell newspapers and get people to watch their shows. Either stop watching and reading the information or let it wash over you remembering that they have a vested interest in exaggerating things.

Secondly remember that we create our own reality in life. Even when we are bombarded by bad news you can choose to decide that there is brighter future for you. There is always opportunity for you. Decide to look for that opportunity and your mind will find it.

2) Alot of stress is based on resistance and we make it worse by our resistance. Whether we are worried about money, health, job losses etc we need to able to accept the worse case scenario in our minds. This may sound counter productive to alot of positive thinking methods out there but its the resistance of thoughts like losing our jobs, houses, health etc that keeps these things in our minds and stops us taking productive action.

3) Taking out some time for yourself can be very helpful. When we are still in meditation or relaxation we can experience and release what has been held in our sub-conscious mind. It start to clear the clutter and leave us feeling refreshed and at peace.

If you follow the steps outlined above you should start to see an improvement if you are stressed and find things slowing down for down for you.

John Right

Stress is some thing that is unavoidable in life but it is treatable and very manageable. Scientists have recently discovered a revolutionary technology that can help disolve stress.

According to research and studies which are on-going, there is reason to hope the prognosis for individuals with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension is variable. Individuals with PPH report they can go about their daily lives by incorporating changes to their lifestyles. Although the survival rate is longer for those without heart failure as well as for those who are diagnosed by a PPH doctor after the age of 40, the survival rate in general is approximately three years.

The dialogue and research continue for those who are diagnosed with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Unfortunately, the cause of this dreaded disease is still unknown. While Primary Pulmonary Hypertension is a well described but poorly understood illness, it is nonetheless a disease of the small muscular pulmonary arteries in which lesions involving cells obstruct flow.

Although there is current therapy using vasodilator drugs, especially calcium channel blockers, which have improved the quality of life in a minority of patients; heart-lung transplantation is feasible for only a few. The study of vascular biology in the last several years is likely to provide insight into the cause and cure of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. The areas involved include the cell biology of pulmonary vascular cells. According to researchers, the future looks bright for understanding and treating this difficult and ambiguous disease.

New therapeutic approaches in Primary Pulmonary Hypertension are targeting how to improve drug delivery. The results in patients who have been treated with epoprostenol suggest that Primary Pulmonary Hypertension can be reversed. This is one such drug that is being studied in depth.

Moreover, treatments which are now being developed include thromboxane-systhesis inhibitors and receptor antagonists, specific phosphodiesterase inhibitors, endothelin-receptor antagonists, and prostacyclin analogues. Cicaprost, which is an oral prostacyclin and is used in Japan, is being studied for its long term efficacy. Inhalation therapy with iloprost is being tested in a large study in Europe.

A new long-acting analogue of prostacyclin called 15AU81 is also under development. Another study revealed that improved survival with the drug Remodulin therapy rose as much as 68% for a 4 year survival rate.
Newer vasodilator agents and modes of administration continue to evolve and improve the quality of life of individuals suffering with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. For patients with severe and symptomatic pulmonary hypertension, unresponsive to medical therapy, lung transplantation continues to be an effective, life-saving therapy.

While treatment in individuals with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension is critical, the prognosis has been already defined. The problem, however, stems from the fact that the onset of symptoms is latent, albeit 10 years, and for those who do not show any symptoms, especially those individuals who took Fen-Phen as a weight loss supplement. There is no way to determine if one has been affected by the disease.

Although there is certainly enough evidence to support the assertion that Fen-Phen was the primary cause of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, the difficulty in diagnosing it in an early stage by a PPH doctor is impossible.

Certainly one can notify their PPH doctor that they have been taking the drug Fen-Phen, and perhaps monitoring the individual on a regular basis can help in determining if PPH is present. Unfortunately, the only way to actually determine if the disease is present is through a series of tests and waiting it out.

The old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” seems apropos at this time. In cases where Fen-Phen was consumed by the public, they can certainly contact a PPH lawyer to discuss litigation. Moreover, in those cases where pregnant moms took anti-depressants which resulted in a birth defect to their newborns, this too can be litigated by a PPH lawyer.

While current resources are available to any individual suffering with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, it doesn’t negate the fact that their long term prognosis, as of this moment, is not great. One would hope that all of the research that is on-going throughout the US and the world will come to find a drug or a cure at some point.

File a lawsuit with a PPH lawyer is important in several respects. It puts the pharmaceutical companies on notice that more studies and trials should be conducted to ensure the drugs they sell will not ultimately harm the user. While these companies continue to dole out drugs, for which side effects are ever present, people are suffering ill affects and are at the mercy of the doctors.

In the case of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, consulting a PPH lawyer is not only vital, but should be a mandatory action taken by everyone who has ever been affected by a drug or an anti-depressant that has caused severe illness or loss of life.

Old age problems may occur from the age of 40, but it all depends on the overall health of a person in youth. Happy young people can grow happy in old age, but it is one of the hardest truths to believe that life does not give a chance. Its heaviest bounces reverse back in old age. The loss of friend, family and loved ones leave people behind alone and this loneliness can cause much depression in old age. Anyhow, in this article, we will discuss in detail the problems, troubles and tribulation and solutions of old age physical and mental health.

As age grows, many physical problems begin to appear like muscle pain, arthritis, bowl syndrome, gout, prostate, heart problems, hypertension, overweight, asthma, bone weakness, osteoporosis, foot problems, dementia, diabetes, sleep disturbances, sight, hearing and speaking difficulty are common ailments of age. In order to minimize the risks of having these problems, one should adopt regular physical activity, which is not only safe and sound but also enjoyable. It will keep your body fit and have check on your weight. Regular checkup is highly necessary and inevitable in old age problems. It is important to note here that you should get to know neighbors numbers and keep the security system intact if you are living alone. Get a list of emergency numbers with you and keep them handy.

In order to handle a patient with heart problem, you should adopt serious precautionary measures. Regular visits to doctor and proper taking care of a patient is highly required. You can also get information from Internet and can ask your doctor about how serious the problem is and how to cope up with it easily. Take complete diet plan and exercise schedule from your doctor.

If you have prostate problem, you should visit the doctor on regular basis, as it is high irritating problem, which starts with urination problem. But right diagnosis at right time can keep you safe from major malignancy in prostate. Follow all instructions of doctor carefully.

The Bowl Syndrome is another problem, which is frequently complaint by many people in old age. If you are having this problem, you should avoid certain fruits which can cause it aggravated like watermelon, orange, mango. So consult your doctor before taking these fruits and follow all advises given by your physician.

Diabetes is considered the silent killer as it keeps on damaging internal organs of the patient silently so proper intake of insulin is a must. Try to control your sugar level with exercise and diet. Avoid sweet food, confectionary and deep-fried food. It is impertinent to note here that physical health cannot be achieved without taking healthy diet.

Physical health is as important as mental health. Rather more appropriate to say is to be healthy fit requires healthy brain and mind. Any disturbance or tension can directly lead to physical illness. So it is highly important to maintain mental health along with physical health. Depression is the major cause of all disease in today’s world. Many people do fall into depression but they don’t know it. The most common symptoms of depression are restlessness, change in behavior, loss of appetite, and feelings of being guilty. If you are having any of the above problems, contact your doctor as early as possible. Take part in mental activities like chess etc and keep yourself happy and tension less.

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, commonly referred to as PPH, is caused by an increased pressure within the pulmonary arteries which carry blood from your heart to your lungs. This eventually leads to the thickening of the arteries and narrowing of the arterial passageways, which further obstruct the flow of blood.

In an effort to compensate for poor circulation, the right side of your heart becomes enlarged, and the extra work the heart must do can eventually cause right-sided heart failure. Primary Pulmonary Hypertension complications can occur in the form of liver failure, kidney failure, or heart failure.

While the specific cause of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension is not known, there are a variety of causes which have been found to contribute to Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. One of these is the appetite suppressant known as Fen-Phen, which has been shown to constrict or narrow the pulmonary artery.

Fen-Phen was prescribed as a weight loss drug in the 1960s, and it is estimated that over 20 million people were found to use Fen-Phen in their weight loss treatment. However, due to an overwhelming occurrence of abnormal echocardiograms, the FDA was forced to take the drug Fen-Phen off the market in 1997.

Studies commenced regarding the use of Fen-Phen as it related to Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, and it was found that there was a direct relationship between this drug and vascular heart disease and Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Unfortunately, even though patients stopped taking the diet drug Fen-Phen, they were already marked for developing this disease.

Medical experts have noted that there was a potential latency of ten or more years between the last date on which the patient was exposed to the drug Fen-Phen and the time at which the patient developed the first symptoms of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Thus, cases of PPH continue to occur today in those people who had taken Fen-Phen alone or in combination with other weight loss drugs.

Moreover, there have been a myriad of lawsuits against the drug company, and many patients have sought a Primary Pulmonary Hypertension lawyer who specializes in this specific area to seek compensation for, and as a result of, PPH complications which occurred.

It is revealed that women are five times more likely than men to develop PPH. While there are often no symptoms of this disease until the condition is advanced, the main symptom is swollen ankles. In addition, your skin may have a bluish tinge because the blood contains less oxygen that it should.

The low oxygen content of the blood stimulates the production of more red blood cells. When the red cell count becomes too great, the blood becomes thicker and harder to push through the small vessels of the lung, further increasing the pulmonary artery blood pressure and decreasing the cardiac output.

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension complications can cause right-sided heart failure. If you have been experiencing breathlessness because of underlying lung disease, PPH is likely to make you even more breathless, and you may also experience other symptoms associated with right-sided heart failure.

One of the symptoms of right-sided heart failure is fatigue and swelling of the lowest part of your body from accumulation of fluid. Some of the signs you should look for is if you are up and about, your ankles may swell. If you are bedridden, the swelling will be most noticeable in the lower part of your back.

Internal organs such as the liver can also become swollen, and this can result in abdominal pain. Additional Primary Pulmonary Hypertension complications can occur in the form of congestive heart failure, which is when both the right and left side of the heart fail.

If you were prescribed Fen-Phen for weight loss, and are now exhibiting symptoms of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, you should contact a PPH lawyer. You are entitled to seek damages by utilizing the services of a PPH lawyer. If either you or someone you know has suffered damages related to the use of Fen-Phen, including Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, it is important to proceed with claims to recover damages with the assistance of a PPH lawyer. You can receive compensation for pain and suffering, lost earnings, medical expenses, and punitive damages.

Unfortunately, since Fen-Phen was taken off the market, there are millions of people who have reported symptoms associated with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Make no mistake; this condition can be deadly as it affects the primary heart muscles which can lead to heart failure.

If you are suffering ill effects of the drug Fen-Phen, it is incumbent upon you to seek a pulmonary specialist who can diagnose your condition and determine the extent of PPH. It is further advised that you contact a PPH lawyer immediately.

While there may be one or more causes of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, recent studies have found certain anti-depressant medications and weight loss suppressants are the known culprits. Most people who are diagnosed with this disease are sensitive to certain internal or external factors which constrict the blood vessels when exposed to these factors.

Case in point: Raynaud’s disease is a condition in which the fingers and toes turn blue when cold because the blood vessels in the fingers and toes are particularly sensitive to cold. Individuals with Raynaud’s disease are more likely to develop Primary Pulmonary Hypertension.

Moreover, diet suppressants such as Fen-Phen, has been the leading agent which has ultimately caused PPH and for which PPH lawsuits are on-going. Other factors contributing to Primary Pulmonary Hypertension include pregnant women who take anti-depressants, specifically Paxil or any of the other more common prescribed anti-depressant medications. Further, this has caused increased litigation among those women whose babies have been born with serious defects or, in some cases, died.

It is important to point out how PPH begins. It starts with injury to the layer of cells that line the small blood vessels of the lungs. As a result, the smooth muscle contracts more than normal and thereby narrows the vessel. The process eventually results in the development of extra amounts of tissue in the walls of the pulmonary arteries.

The amount of muscle increases in some arteries, and muscle appears in the walls of arteries that normally have no muscle. With time, scarring, or fibrosis, of the arteries takes place, and they become stiff as well as thickened. Some vessels may become completely blocked. There is also a tendency for blood clots to form within the smaller arteries.

Due to the demands placed on it by PPH, the heart muscle gets bigger, and the right ventricle expands in size. Becoming overworked and enlarged, the right ventricle gradually becomes weak and loses its ability to pump enough blood to the lungs. Eventually, the right side of the heart may fail completely, resulting in death.

This brings us to the treatment of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension and the drug Fen-Phen. Studies have revealed that treatment with this weight loss supplement increased the risk of PPH by 28 times. Therefore, individuals with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension developed this disease as a direct result of the drug Fen-Phen. Law firms who specialize in pharmaceutical litigation have been deeply involved in PPH lawsuits, and those who have been diagnosed with this disease by a PPH specialist, have sought a PPH attorney to handle such litigation.

Fen-Phen is a combination drug that was introduced for weight loss treatment in the 1990’s. It was recalled from the market by the FDA in 1997 because of data showing that this drug caused heart valve damage and PPH. Studies showed that patients who took these appetite suppressants, particularly those whose treatment lasted for more than three months, were much more likely to develop Primary Pulmonary Hypertension.

As mentioned earlier, the anti-depressant Paxil is just one of the known causes of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension in babies. This, too, has resulted in women retaining the services of a PPH attorney for the express purpose of filing PPH lawsuits on the newborn mom’s behalf.

Pregnant women and those who plan to become pregnant should avoid taking the anti-depressant Paxil if possible because of the risk of birth defects. Two studies of pregnant women who were taking Paxil during their first trimester have shown that their babies have heart defects at a rate that is as much as twice the norm.

However, a conundrum exists. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said the decision whether to treat pregnant women with SSRIs, a class of anti-depressants that includes Prozac, Zoloft and Lexapro as well as Paxil, should be considered on an individual basis.

However, it is clear that exposure to SSRIs late in pregnancy has been associated with short-term complications in newborns. A caveat, however, was also mentioned in that reproductive-age women have the highest prevalence of major depressive disorders. The benefit to the mother of treatment with any of the drugs may outweigh the risk to the fetus.
It is worth reiterating that Paxil, taken when pregnant, does pose a risk to the unborn.

In addition, if you or anyone you know has ever taken Fen-Phen, and are experiencing symptoms, it is vital that you seek a PPH attorney so that he or she can litigate this matter via a PPH lawsuit on your behalf. Moreover, it is important that you consult a PPH specialist immediately. PPH treatments, while they may be unable to stop the progression of the disease, can help to improve your quality of life.

Hypertension, otherwise known as high blood pressure affects millions of people worldwide. For years, some medical providers have suspected that the two interact in a tangible way. Recently, a medical study has emerged that brings supporting evidence to this claim.

A national multi-center study from 2000 confirmed a possible connection between sleep apnea and hypertension (high blood pressure) in both older and middle-aged adults. The study, found those who suffer from moderate to severe cases were at increased risk of hypertension.

The study involved more than 6,000 adult men and women age 40 or older. The presence of the sleep disorder was detected using polysomnography, which simultaneously records brain waves, heart waves, blood oxygen levels, and breathing rate while a person sleeps. A team of technicians visited each participant at home in the evening and measured blood pressure and weight, as well as other health parameters, and then connected the person to a sleep monitor. The average number of breathing pauses per hour of sleep was used to measure the degree of sleep apnea.

“As a result of this study, we now believe that sleep apnea may be one of the reasons why overweight people are at increased risk for high blood pressure,” said lead author Javier Nieto, MD, associate professor, Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. “The connection is important because high blood pressure can lead to serious adverse health consequences, including heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease.”

The results of the study showed that people with more than 30 pauses per hour of sleep were more than twice as likely to suffer from high blood pressure than those with no breathing pauses. An increased risk of high blood pressure was found even at moderate levels of sleep apnea. Since sleep apnea is more common in overweight individuals; additional statistical analysis were conducted to control for body weight and waist circumference. Even after controlling for these variables, however, sleep apnea was associated with an increased frequency of high blood pressure.

The authors of the study stressed that because sleep apnea currently goes undiagnosed in most individuals, the results emphasized the need for increased awareness of this condition by both physicians and patients. Whereas the current study measured sleep apnea and blood pressure levels at the same time, subsequent studies are being planned to look at whether changes in the sleep disorder are related to the onset of hypertension or to fluctuations in blood pressure. The authors also noted that since being overweight can cause this sleep disorder, the study’s results add new urgency to the search for ways of stopping or reversing the obesity epidemic in the United States.

The main conclusion that can be drawn is that we must take the personal responsibility to make changes to our lifestyle that can help us avoid the negative consequences that both of these conditions create. This includes changes to our lifestyle such as proper diet and exercise.

This article basically deals with answering the question – Hypertension why is it a public health problem?. So without wasting any time, let us get to the point.

Needless to say, we can’t give our best shot unless we have a healthy body and a fresh mind. We are more likely to make mistakes in whatever we may be doing when we are worried than when we are calm. This is a pretty much obvious statement that no longer even needs to be counter checked.

Hypertension is a base root disease which leads to several other serious diseases, that is why it is a public health problem. Whenever we are worried, we are bound to make mistakes and commit errors.

Hypertension basically makes us paranoid and we become over worried on a particular thing often without a sufficient cause, now that can only make our life worse than before, it can’t add any bright color to our life.

Hypertension can result in a loss of billions of dollars annually worldwide due to the worries it causes people and that is definitely a public health issue.

A person suffering from hypertension may not be diagnosed to suffer from it so easily and this can make it a worse public health issue.

Hypertension can cause many other diseases to the patient and treating all those diseases independently does become a major hassle and it does surely become a public health problem.

Besides, the monetary losses that are caused due to hypertension are pretty mind boggling and a major concern to humanity.

Hypertension is no doubt a major concern to people worldwide, both directly and due to its indirect consequences. First of all it causes major worrying issues to people which not only have them perturbed but also affect the prosperity of the nation due to reduced productivity of those people.

Secondly, hypertension is a root disease for causing several other diseases which need to be targeted and treated separately. So it is a major public health issue and seriously needs to be treated at the right time else it can cause serious worries.

We must diagnose and treat hypertension at the right time else it can become a serious public health problem due to reasons as explained before in this article. If you don’t take this disease seriously, it is bound to cause you problems in life later, both for you and your family!

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension is caused by elevated blood pressure in the lungs. This disease results from a blockage of the flow of blood or oxygen through the lungs. Let’s review the Primary Pulmonary Hypertension symptoms and diagnosis.

The most common symptoms of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension include shortness of breath, hyperventilation, fatigue, weakness which progresses, fainting, dizziness, coughing up blood, and the development of blue tinge to your skin.

While Primary Pulmonary Hypertension may not reveal itself until it is well advanced, one of the main symptoms, however, is swollen ankles. These symptoms may occur over a period of time. If you have been diagnosed with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, it is important that you be monitored for these symptoms by establishing routine visits to your cardiologist or PPH specialist. If any new symptoms occur, call your PPH specialist immediately.

Some people with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension mistake feeling tired with being out of shape. However, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, and even fainting spells are also typical early symptoms. Swelling in the ankles or legs, bluish lips and skin, and chest pain are among other symptoms of the disease. Some may also complain of a racing pulse, and many feel they have trouble getting enough air. Palpitations can also cause discomfort.

An examination by your PPH specialist may show distension of the veins in your neck, swelling of the legs or hands, and an enlarged liver. All of these conditions indicate that the right ventricle of your heart is working hard to pump blood into the lungs blood vessels. This may be a clear indication that you are suffering from Primary Pulmonary Hypertension.

In addition, you may want to note that your PPH specialist may not immediately diagnose PPH right away. If you have been on the drug Fen-Phen for weight loss, for example, the time frame from the time you took the drug to developing symptoms is roughly ten years.

Even in its later stages, however, the signs of the disease can often be confused with other conditions affecting the heart and lungs. Therefore, it is vital that you inform your PPH specialist that you were taking the drug Fen-Phen and the length of time as well. In this way, most of the conditions associated with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension can be excluded.

In an effort to determine the extent of the disease, your PPH specialist may wish to perform several tests. A cardiac catheterization is the way the doctor can make certain that the condition is due to Primary Pulmonary Hypertension and not attribute it to some other condition.

Additional tests may be performed, such as: an electrocardiogram, which will show enlargement of the right side of the heart; a chest X-ray may show enlargement of the size of the heart; an echocardiogram or ultrasound of the heart will be performed initially and can also be used to follow the progression of the disease. An echocardiogram can show enlargement of the right ventricle and can sometimes estimate the pressures of the right ventricle and pulmonary arteries; and, as mentioned above, a cardiac catheterization.

The one test by which a clear diagnosis of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension can be made by your PPH specialist is a cardiac catheterization. This will actually measure the pressures on the right side of the heart. Various drugs may be used during a cardiac catheterization to determine if the blood vessels in the lungs will relax in response to them. This may lower the pressures in the lungs and can help guide therapy.

Unfortunately, those who have Primary Pulmonary Hypertension do not seek medical advice by a PPH specialist until they can no longer go about their daily routine. The more severe the symptoms, the more advanced the disease. In these more advanced stages, the individual is only able to perform minimal activity and has symptoms even when resting. The disease may worsen to the point where the individual is completely bedridden.

It is vital, therefore, that if you suspect or have symptoms of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, and it has been confirmed by your PPH specialist, that you seek out a PPH attorney. It is your right to seek action against the drug company who produced the drug Fen-Phen, and to fully engage in a lawsuit in order to seek damages through claims facilitated by a qualified PPH attorney. You are entitled to receive compensation for medical treatments, punitive damages, and loss of earnings.

A PPH attorney, who specializes in pharmaceutical litigation in general, and Fen-Phen in particular, has no doubt seen a multitude of legal cases surrounding this drug by those seeking not only to protect their health and that of their loved ones. It is clear, therefore, that you should take advantage of the legal recourse that is available by contacting a PPH attorney.

If you have been diagnosed with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension by your PPH specialist, you need to know the Primary Pulmonary Hypertension side effects as well. To this end, we will discuss these side effects in depth.

As with any drug, there are accompanying side effects. People with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension may respond differently to medications that are meant to dilate and relax the blood vessels. Because no one drug can be consistent with every person in its efficacy to alleviate the symptoms, different drugs nonetheless have to be utilized before any long term treatment is prescribed. In addition, as with many medications, one may become resistant or develop severe reactions, in which case the amount and type of drug may have to be changed.

For those who suffer from Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, the only way to ascertain which drugs will be effective is to perform a cardiac catheterization. In this way, the PPH specialist can determine which medications have more of an effect on the heart and lungs of the affected individual. Further, they can also adjust the dosage to reduce any side effects incurred. Some of these side effects may include: low blood pressure, nausea, angina, or headaches.

In order to determine whether a drug is improving an individual’s condition, both the pulmonary pressure and the amount of blood being pumped by the heart has to be evaluated. A decrease in pulmonary pressure alone, for example, does not necessarily mean that the individual is recovering. Cardiac output must either increase or remain unchanged. The desired response is a decrease in pressure and an increase in cardiac output. Once the individual has reached a stable condition, he or she can go home, returning every few weeks or months to the PPH specialist doctor for further check ups.

Individuals with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension can be treated with calcium channel blocking drugs given by mouth. By relaxing the smooth muscle in the walls of the heart and blood vessels, these calcium channel blockers improve the ability of the heart to pump blood. In addition, a vasodilator is helping some severely ill individuals who are unresponsive to treatment with calcium channel blockers.

These medicines enable the vessels in the lungs to expand and allow the blood to move through them with less resistance. The primary drugs in this category are prostacyclin, which is given as a continuous intravenous infusion, and treprostinil, which is given as a continuous infusion under the skin. Protstacyclin seems to improve Primary Pulmonary Hypertension and permit more physical activity. It is sometimes used as a bridge to help those patients waiting for a transplant, while in other cases it is used for long-term treatment.

Studies have indicated, however, that certain drugs to cause side effects, specifically the drug Tracleer. The side effects include: nasal stuffiness, flushing, headache, hypotension, fainting, and abnormal elevation of liver function blood tests. The most important side effect has been elevation of liver function tests and as a result, liver function tests should be monitored monthly in individuals receiving Tracleer.

It should be noted that no one has yet developed permanent liver damage, and so far, all abnormal liver function tests have returned to normal after discontinuing Tracleer.

Another drug, which was used in the treatment of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension and caused severe side effects, was the drug Flolan. These side effects included: nausea, vomiting, headache, low blood pressure, chest pain, anxiety, dizziness, abdominal pain, and musculoskeletal pain.

Remodulin, a drug used in the treatment of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, also produced side effects including: headache, jaw pain, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. The most serious side effect of this particular drug is pain associated with the insertion and presence of the metal tube inserted under the skin. Moreover, a separate prescription for pain relief has to be prescribed to ease the pain.

It should be noted here that Flolan is chemically similar to Remodulin but they are not identical. Both are prostacyclins, and both are injections requiring an electronic portable pump. Flolan is given by a continuous 24/7 intravenous infusion into a surgically placed catheter into a vein under the collarbone, while Remodulin is given by a continuous infusion directly into the skin as mentioned above.

Considering the amount of medications used for Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, which has been directly related to the use of Fen-Phen, and for which a variety of side effects can be associated with these different drugs, it seems appropriate to contact a PPH attorney who not only specializes in pharmaceutical litigation, but one that is more than knowledgeable on the drug Fen-Phen as well. Moreover, any individual who has used Fen-Phen, and for which no symptoms have yet become apparent, should also seek the advice of a PPH attorney.

It is painfully clear that any individual who has taken Fen-Phen will become affected by Primary Pulmonary Hypertension within the next 10 years. Thus, seeking monetary and punitive damages through the capable hands of a PPH attorney is the thing one can do to ensure the obvious costs of medications and possibly surgery will be remunerated by such legal action.

When your physician told you that you had high blood pressure did you understand what he was saying. No doubt you heard the numbers defining the levels of your pressure and that they placed you in a category above normal but did you understand what it was all about or did your doctor take the time to explain everything to you. Often being told you have hypertension is quite a traumatic event, not on a par with being told you have cancer or some other life threatening disease, but traumatic nevertheless. Although it can indeed be life threatening. It just never appears as being an imminent threat. We always think we have time which is really crazy because you never know when a heart attack or stroke might hit you especially if you have had it for a while.

It is often only when you get home that it begins to sink in and you begin thinking of all the questions you should have asked at the time. What does this mean? How does that affect me? You know, all those sorts of questions. To help you out here are some of the more common terms used when talking about high blood pressure.

* Hypotension – this means you have low blood pressure.
* Hypertension – this is the same as saying you have high blood pressure and refers to measurements above 140/90.
* Systolic Pressure – systolic pressure is the force, experienced by the walls of your arteries, when the heart beats pushing the blood around your body. This is measured in terms of millimeters of mercury.
* Diastolic Pressure – diastolic pressure is the force, experienced by your artery walls, of the blood moving around your body when your heart is at rest between beats and is measured in millimetres of mercury.
* Artery – the blood vessel that carries oxygenated blood away from the heart and to the muscles, tissue and organs.
* Veins – the blood vessels that carry de-oxygenated blood back to the heart and lungs for refreshing.
* Blood Pressure – this is the force experienced by the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps the blood around your body. It is measured and expressed in terms of systolic pressure over diastolic pressure. The ranges are described as Optimal 115/75 or less, Normal less than 120/80, Prehypertension 120-139/80-89, Stage 1 140-159/90-99 and Stage 2 more than 160/more than 100. If only one of your measurements, systolic or diastolic, is in one of the categories above normal then you will be considered overall to be in that category.

These are just a few of the basic terms that will help you understand your high blood pressure better. Once you have a better understanding of whats going on you will be in a better position to ask more informed questions the next time you visit your doctor.

I have had high blood pressure for some time and I have found monitoring it on a regular basis with my own blood pressure machine to be very helpful. Wrist blood pressure monitors are one type of monitor clinically proven to be accurate and reliable. Before your blood pressure gets out of control find out which monitor might be suitable for you at http://www.wrist-blood-pressure-monitors.org
