and Diet Management (2009 – 2014)

Report description

The global weight management market continues to grow despite the current downturn in the global economy and is estimated to reach US$586 billion in 2014 from about US$363 billion in 2009. The driving force for the global weight management market is the dramatic increase in the obese population. Sedentary but fast paced lifestyle and consumption of high calorie and under-nutritious food has contributed to the rising number of obese and overweight people. These are the main target segment of the weight management market. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/Market-Research-Reports/Global-Weight-Loss-and-Diet-Management.html )

The existing players in the food and beverage (F&B) market, as well as in the drugs and supplement market, have accordingly expanded their market scope to increase revenues by targeting this segment. Marginal weight loss can be attained through personal efforts, however, overweight and obesity are increasingly becoming a concern that require the intervention of professionals and other service providers. This is expanding the scope of weight management services market.

( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=91847&rt=Commercial-Insight-Cardiovascular-and-Metabolic-Market-Overview-Diabetes-to-the-fore-as-generics-hit-primary-care-markets.html )

Although the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) recommended the continued use of Lantus in type 1 and type 2 diabetics, it has called for increased research into the relationship between insulin therapy – particularly Lantus (insulin glargine; Sanofi-Aventis) – and the risk of cancer.

It was postulated during the discussion at the 2009 EASD meeting that insulin use may be related to the increased incidence of cancer seen in diabetics over that seen in the general population. The preliminary data discussed in the symposium suggested lower rates of cancer with Levemir (insulin detemir; Novo Nordisk) compared to neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH), but higher rates with Lantus.
