To have the health of your dreams, you need to spend more time dreaming. Research shows that one of the best ways to improve your health tomorrow is to get a good night’s sleep tonight – at least 7 – 8.5 hours. That may sound simple enough, but the fact is that Americans have racked up a huge “sleep debt” through the years. On average, people living in the United States get at least one hour less sleep per night than they did 20 years ago. After several days, weeks or months of sleep debt, we have trouble concentrating and making important decisions about everything from our job to homework and paying bills.

The director of the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research in Bethesda, Maryland was recently quoted as saying that sleep is just as important to our overall health as a healthy diet and exercise. Sleep deprivation has been linked to many health-related problems including chronic fatigue and obesity. It’s also blamed for an increased risk of causing an auto accident. You can’t do your best driving on the road without a good night’s sleep!

Sleep is without a doubt one of the most important aspects of our daily routine as far as the maintenance of health and prevention of disease is concerned. After all, sleep is when the body regenerates itself, thereby making it ready for a whole new day of activity. It gives your body a chance to rebalance itself. People who sleep well feel better, look younger, live longer, and are more energized and motivated throughout every physical and mental challenge of every day. A recent study says that the number of babies born to obese mothers who die in infancy has gone up seventeen percent. Women who are obese could have many complications when they are pregnant. Other studies have found that there is an association with birth defects and being obese. Some of these birth defects include heart problems and limb problems.

Another health problem from being obese that could affect the mother is gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is developed during pregnancy. Just like Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, the glucose, which is what happens to your food when it is broken down, will stay in your blood stream and not go to your cells to be converted into energy. However, with most women, once you have the baby you are no longer diabetic. But you are at a higher risk of getting it if you become pregnant again in the future.

The telomeres function by ensuring the cell’s chromosomes do not fuse with each other or rearrange during cell replication. This is very important because it basically helps the cells to avoid developing into cancer. Telomeres have been described as the ends of shoelaces, without which the lace would unravel.

Skin cancer has now been linked to deficiencies in the diet. Carcinogens that are consumed can form cancer when they infiltrate cells and corrupt the DNA. This causes the mutation of the DNA which converts the normal cells into malignant cells. The way your body fights off these mutations is through boosting your immune system through a healthy diet and nutritional supplementation. This is good news because it gives you the power to help your body in its fight against this disease.

In addition to a healthy diet and nutritional supplementation your body also needs antioxidants. The antioxidants can actually deactivate free radicals which cause an oxidation process to occur that allows the carcinogens to enter into normal cells. You don’t want that if you are concerned about living your life to the fullest. Continue reading ‘Skin Cancer Prevention Through Nutrition’ »
