Jane woke up one morning and was astonished to find a strange man in bed with her. “Who are you and what are you doing here?” she shouted as the man looked on with surprise and shock. Jane, aged 71 is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The intruder in her bed is her husband of 60 years and is someone who dearly loved her and has shared the bed with her all the while they were happily married.
Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia named after the German physical Alois Alzheimer (1864 to 1915). Sufferers of this disease gradually lose their memory. Notable dignitaries afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease include the late US President Ronald Reagan. Once the disease has progressed, sufferers don’t even recognise their closest relatives. They suffer huge interference in orientation and also severe depression. In recent years, it has been determined that this disease is hereditary. Enjoy Old Age
The world that surrounds us is very beautiful. It is a manifesting of the “out blinking” of Divine Blueprints contained within the Quantum Ocean, Mind of God.
All beauty is also within our consciousness because we too are Divine Blueprints of the Quantum Ocean, Mind of God. Down through the Ages we have added erroneous energies to our Divine Blueprint. We have through our ignorance, dirtied them. This is what manifests as old age and disease.
We would not be able to see beauty outside of us if we did not have beauty within us. We are just one part of life and inseparably bound to it. We can learn something from every tree, flower, rock and mineral if we would but learn how to look. Continue reading ‘Quantum Physics and Old Age’ »

When a person grows old, the body eventually gets weaker, since it has been alive and functioning for the past, let’s say, seventy years. The body is strong enough to stand the test of time, at least for a hundred years or so. Of course, it depends on the person if he/ she maintains their health and body to last them through their golden years. But not all people endure being old. A lot of cases concerning health conditions are showing through old age. Since the body gets weaker, it is more prone to illnesses and diseases that may harm or hurt the person more, hence, they have become more vulnerable to such conditions.
A common type of arthritis that affects people over the age of 60, is osteoarthritis. Since symptoms of arthritis are mainly regarded as joint inflammation, or the feeling of pain or stiffness, this type of arthritis also has the same conditions, but is occurring mostly when of old age. Aches and swelling with weakened motion in the joints, particularly hands, hips, knees or spine are the common symptoms of arthritis, specifically osteoarthritis. According to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), osteoarthritis is described as the deterioration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint; also bony overgrowth. Basically, this illness is breaking down a person’s cartilage. Since the cartilage is the tissue that is wrapped around the ends of the joint, having this joint disease will make the bones rub together, causing joint damage over time. As you age, your kidneys’ ability to help your body retain water diminishes and your ability to sense thirst decreases. So, as you get older you need to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Along with fiber, water is important in preventing constipation.
One easy way to make sure you’re getting enough water is to drink a big glassful when you first get up in the morning; then drink 6 to 8 more glasses (8 ounces each) throughout the day. If you drink other liquids, you can get by with less water, but plain water is best. (Milk is another good choice, with the added bonus of a boost of calcium.)

A Biblical passage that seeks to explain man’s sinful nature reads, “For the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.”
That same passage may well apply to the elderly who wish to remain sexually active during their advanced years but who now have to curb that and the other pleasures of life because their bodies can no longer take it.
This does not mean that sex can no longer be enjoyed by the elderly. If the man and the woman are willing, sex is possible throughout the years and there are reports of men who have active sex lives at 90. A few males have produced children at 97 while women as old as 57 have given birth to normal kids.
Poor health may account for the gradual deterioration of the sex organs leading to impotence. After all, few people live to a ripe old age and fewer still can claim they enjoy good health in their advanced years. One pathologist, who examined more than 20,000 bodies, managed to pick out only 25 people who died “a natural death” or one that was not caused by disease. Continue reading ‘Sex and Old Age’ »

How is it that as technology advances and new inventions are created to make life easier, more people in the developed world are dying of cancer, heart disease and stroke every year?
The key lies in a lack of Awareness and Action. More people need to know about the links between the lifestyles they lead and how these affect their bodies. But knowledge is nothing if it is not applied. There needs to be the additional effort of acting on the knowledge to make the tough but necessary lifestyle changes that will halt disease and put our overtaxed bodies back on the path to health and wellness.
Creating Awareness
Let’s talk about cholesterol. It is one of the fats in the blood and can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease and stroke. Yet how many people actually know this? We may vaguely “know of” good and bad cholesterol from what we read or hear about in the news, but not many of us will make the connection between what we are eating now on a daily basis and the disease that erupts years down the road. Even fewer will do something about this connection. Continue reading ‘How To Die Of Old Age, Not Disease’ »

Many countries in the world are facing a potential health crisis as the population ages. In North America, millions of Baby Boomers are turning sixty every day. Aging can bring with it many benefits such as increased wisdom and experience, but aging also increases the risk of serious health problems affecting the body and the brain.
One of the most serious health problems facing people as they get older is the increased risk of dementia. Dementia is a word used to cover a variety of different types of loss of brain function. The most well known type of dementia facing older people is Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s disease leads to an irreversible destruction of brain cells. At the same time, the types of neurotransmitters the brain needs in order to think and remember are also destroyed. Over a period of years, the patient suffering from Alzheimer’s disease progresses from a state of mild forgetfulness to a profound loss of intellect. This is accompanied by an inability to think and remember. The sense of identity is lost. Forms of dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease are one of the main reasons why many senior citizens are unable to live independently.
