I have a chronic problem with kidney stones. It was because of this problem that I received a blessing in disguise. While I was seeing my urologist for a scan on pain from a kidney stone, he found some abnormalities. He first noticed that I had a double hernia and also an enlarged prostate. After the hernia surgery, I went back to the urologist to get a psa test.
PSA stands for Prostate specific antigen. Although I’m not a doctor, I learned that it can detect different issues with the prostate. The first is prostatitus. This is some type of infection or inflammation in the pelvic region. The second is an enlarged prostate or BPH which causes difficult urination. Lastly, psa can detect prostate cancer. I have had difficulty urinating for a few years, so I thought for sure that I simply had BPH. Continue reading ‘My Battle With Prostate Cancer’ »

The prostate gland is a part of male reproductive system. It surrounds the male urethra, which is a tube and gives a passage to the flow of urine from the bladder up to the outside of the body. The main function of this male reproductive gland is to secrete a fluid, which makes up the liquid part of the semen. This fluid nourishes and protects semen, when it is transported into the women vagina through intercourse. It also increases the volume of the semen.
During the spasmodic contractions or convulsion at the moment of intercourse, this gland is able to squeeze and force the secretions it contains into the urethra. The ducts in which these secretions are formed open-close together at the same place in the urethral wall where the two seminal ducts also join the urethra together secretion forms a large proportion of the ejaculate or discharge. Their alkalinity preserves the sperms and stimulates their mobility.

The prostate is a walnut shaped gland found in almost all male mammals. In human beings, it forms a very important part of the male reproductive system as it is primarily responsible for the production of semen. It is situated just below the bladder, surrounding the urethra in a circular fashion. The prostate gland requires the male hormone “testosterone” for proper functioning and regulation.
With advancing age, testosterone production tends to decrease gradually; leading to the various problems associated with the prostate gland. Moreover, the prostate gland can be adversely affected by various factors like obesity, improper diet and pollution etc. The common problems associated with the prostate gland are detailed below.

If you are a man and want to take of his physical well being, you must be in tune with how to take care of your body. Let us focus on one part of our body and that is our prostate gland. As we all know. as we grow older, the prostate normally grows. This condition can present problems. Prostate enlargement also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH typically hit men over the age of fifty. Other common prostate problem is called prostatitis which entails infection and inflammation. So what is the prostate test that must be undertaken in order to detect these diseases.
Two come to mind: Digital rectal exams (DRE) and blood tests for prostate-specific antigen (PSA). The good thing about these tests is that they are routinely for men over fifty and do not require any special preparation on the part for the men. They are typically done if you are included in that age group and are mightily beneficial in order to detect any signs of any prostate related diseases. The Digital rectal exam is done whether the man is experiencing any problems of urinating or not. The doctor administering the prostate test would slide his finger coupled with a globe and proper lubricant into the rectum and would feel the prostate gland. This can be uncomfortable but do not fret as this exam is very brief. If any infection on the prostate is detected, the doctor will get fluid from the prostate by massaging it and would in turn conclude if additional tests are needed.

If you have just been diagnosed as having prostate problems, your GP may have given you a selection of treatment alternatives. But what to pick and how?
It occurs when cells in the prostate, a gland found under the bladder that’s necessary for correct sexual function in men, becomes cancerous thanks to a flux in testosterone. Most cases don’t happen until after 50 years old, but in recent times the proportion of men in their 30’s and 40’s diagnosed as having this disease and other prostate Problems has been steadily rising.
traditional treatments include surgery to remove the prostate gland or radiotherapy. These are aggressive options and complications including impotence and urinary incontinence can come from surgery, and the risk of secondary cancers is a concern since science already knows radiation exposure causes cancer.
The PSA blood test is another area of puzzlement. The PSA test can be false and elevated PSA levels may also be due to benign prostate enlargement, soreness, infection, age and race. Continue reading ‘Fight Prostate Cancer Naturally with Prostate Massage and More’ »
