Any woman who has suffered the incredible pain caused by an ovarian cyst surely does not want to experience such discomfort ever again. The good news is you have an excellent, effective alternative to surgery or physician-prescribed hormone supplements to treat and prevent ovarian cysts.
Doctors frequently prescribe hormone supplements to remedy a woman’s ovarian cyst problems. This usually means the patient must start taking birth control pills.
For some women this course of action can rid their body of ovarian cysts. However, if a woman wants to get pregnant, she can’t take birth control pills to treat or prevent cysts on ovaries. Another drawback for some women is that birth control pills can actually intensify the frequency and impact of cysts on their ovaries. For those people experiencing problems with their eyes, a visit to an eye doctor is very important. Most optometrists offer all the necessary treatments that cover most eye conditions and will deal with the problem both professionally and quickly. Optometrists are of the same caliber as medical doctor except that do not perform surgery and would be happy to deal with any eye problems presented to them.
For some, the thought of visiting an eye doctor is a little frightening. Having people poking around in the eyes is like sticking hands in flames. It is not absolutely necessary and people will tend to make excuses not to get their eyes looked at. But this is not a good thing. Some eye conditions deteriorate very fast and if the patient had only gone quicker to the specialist, the sight could have been saved or made better. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is fairly rare, but very serious. If you or a friend has been diagnosed with this form of cancer, knowledge is the key to dealing with the diagnosis, treatment and potential outcomes.
Mesothelioma is a malignant cancer found in the Mesothelium. The Mesothelium is often referred to as the lining found in the chest cavity and abdomen. A better description of it is that it acts as a sort of protective sack around the internal organs. It consists of two layers. One presses against the organs and the other acts as a sack of sorts. There is lubrication between these two layers, which allows the organs to move freely such as when the lungs inflate and deflate with air.
Mesothelioma occurs when cells in this layer start to mutate and grow uncontrollably. This cancer is particularly difficult to deal with because the Mesothelium is so pervasive through the chest cavity that the cancerous cells can spread far and wide. That being said, most forms of Mesothelioma begin in the lining around the lungs or abdomen. Once established, they can spread in any direction. Continue reading ‘Mesothelioma – Knowledge is Power’ »

An individual may undergo eyelid surgery to change the appearance of the upper eyelids and lower eyelid, ultimately giving the eye lid a fresh youthful appearance. Most men and women undergo this to treat loose, baggy, droopy sagging skin, enhancing the natural contour of the eyelid.
This procedure also helps to remove excess fatty deposits that appear as bags under the eyes and work to eliminate fine wrinkles. Most successful candidates are healthy, non smokers, with no conditions such as glaucoma or dry eye. Continue reading ‘Eyelid Surgery from Start to Finish’ »

Cancer is a diagnosis nobody wants to hear. Some forms of cancer are easier to deal with than others. Mesothelioma is unfortunately a bad one and often calls for a particular point of reference when it comes to treatment – an aggressive one!
Mesothelioma is a brutal form of cancer because it usually does not manifest until the very late stages of growth. The cancer is associated with exposure to asbestos fibers in the air, but it can take 40 years or more for the cancer to reach late stages of development that show clear signs. This makes it a rare, but very deadly form of cancer.
It goes without saying that you should consult with a Mesothelioma specialist if you are unlucky enough to be diagnosed with this disease. The treatment you receive will reflect your current diagnosis, but it is vital that you realize the nature of the disease will call for a different approach than you usually receive. Most people are told that conservative treatment is the way to go with most disease. Continue reading ‘Getting Aggressive With Mesothelioma’ »

An ileostomy is the result of a surgery in which the lower part of the small intestines (the ileum) is brought through the abdomen. An opening is made in the abdominal wall and a stoma is formed. The stoma is usually found on the lower right side of the abdomen. Stool is then drained from the ileum to the outside of the body into an appliance or pouch. After surgery the stool will have a soft and sometimes liquid consistency. An appliance is flat in appearance and attaches to the skin with adhesive to secure the pouch to the skin.
Things to Know When Problems Occur
* Stoma Size- Knowing the size of the stoma will assist in finding the right size appliance for an ileostomy. Most ostomy supply companies will provide a chart with pre-cut holes. By placing the chart over the stoma, the size can be quickly determined. Continue reading ‘Ileostomy Care – When Problems Occur’ »

It goes without saying that “chances” and percentages should be taken for what they are – an estimate. If something happens 9 out of 10 times, there is still a decent chance that you might be that 1 out of ten times. The survival rate of any cancer should be taken only as a guideline, not anything more than that. Patients beat cancer all the time and there is no reason that you can’t either.
The survival rate with Mesothelioma is done on a five year projection. This simply means that the number of patients surviving the cancer are compared through each of the five years after diagnosis. For instance, 39 percent of patients diagnosed with Mesothelioma survive for more than a year. Unfortunately, the numbers go down from there with 20 percent surviving 2 years, 11 surviving three years, 10 percent surviving four years and 9 percent surviving 5 years. All and all, these are not great numbers. Continue reading ‘Mesothelioma – What Are Your Chances After A Diagnosis?’ »

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer often associated with exposure to asbestos. It is a brutal form of cancer because it can take as much as 40 years to manifest. That being said, there are three forms of surgery that are used although only two are really used for actual treatment.
Mesothelioma. It is not a word you want to hear form a physician. The abdomen, lungs and chest have a lining called the mesothelium. This lining can be adversely impacted by pollutants and become cancerous. One of the classic pollutants is asbestos which is breathed in by individuals and enters the body through the lungs. How exactly it causes cancer in the mesothelium is a bit of a mystery because of the long gestation period. Still, the diagnosis is not a favorable one and often ends in death.
The first form of surgery undertaken for Mesothelium is known as a thoracoscopy. This is not used to actually treat the patient. Instead, it scope is inserted surgically into the chest so that the physicians can view the condition of the mesothelium, lungs, heart and what have you. Having made a visual inspection, they are in a far better position to render a potential plan of treatment and assess the potential outcomes.

It all started like any other day. I got up, went to work, and came home to my husband. We were sitting and watching a movie when it happened. It is a day I will never forget. With five little words, just an off-hand comment, changed my life forever. My husband turned and said, “Why is your shirt wet?” That is how it started.
The Initial Symptom
As weird as it sounds, I was not concerned about the bleeding. Yes, many women would be freaked out if they were bleeding from the nipple. Not me though. Ten years earlier, when I was 22, something similar happened.
Back when I was 22, I was taking weight lifting in college. During a bench press, my right nipple started bleeding. Then, I was freaked out. I went to the doctor and had test done and even had surgery. It was nothing. I had torn my ducts. No big deal. Continue reading ‘Breast Cancer – Diagnosed at 32, My Story Part 1 – Finding Out’ »

What is Breast Cancer?
The term breast cancer refers to a malignant tumor that has developed from cells in the breast. The breast is composed of two main types of tissues: glandular tissues and stromal (supporting) tissues.
There are several types of tumors that may develop within different areas of the breast. Most tumors are the result of benign (non-cancerous) changes within the breast. For example, fibrocystic change is a non-cancerous condition in which women develop cysts (accumulated packets of fluid), fibrosis (formation of scar-like connective tissue), lumpiness, areas of thickening, tenderness, or breast pain….
Breast Cancer Risk factors
Other factors that may make you more susceptible to breast cancer include : -
Age : – Your chances of developing breast cancer increase with age. Close to 80 percent of breast cancers occur in women older than age 50. In your 30s, you have a one in 233 chance of developing breast cancer. By age 85, your chance is one in eight.
A personal history of breast cancer : – If you’ve had breast cancer in one breast, you have an increased risk of developing cancer in the other breast.
Family history : – If you have a mother, sister or daughter with breast or ovarian cancer or both, or a male relative with breast cancer, you have a greater chance of also developing breast cancer Continue reading ‘Breast Cancer Surgery in India – By Trained Surgeons at Accredited Hospital’ »
