For those people experiencing problems with their eyes, a visit to an eye doctor is very important. Most optometrists offer all the necessary treatments that cover most eye conditions and will deal with the problem both professionally and quickly. Optometrists are of the same caliber as medical doctor except that do not perform surgery and would be happy to deal with any eye problems presented to them.
For some, the thought of visiting an eye doctor is a little frightening. Having people poking around in the eyes is like sticking hands in flames. It is not absolutely necessary and people will tend to make excuses not to get their eyes looked at. But this is not a good thing. Some eye conditions deteriorate very fast and if the patient had only gone quicker to the specialist, the sight could have been saved or made better.
Many people fear the thought of growing older and having to wear glasses. They feel that this makes them older and they don’t want to admit that age is creeping up on them. But wearing glasses must be the better option than not being able to see clearly or not at all.
For some who have other problems with their health, getting eye check ups is not so bad. They know that their particular disease make take its toll on the eyes and they are far more likely to get this attended to quickly than the so called ‘healthy’ person.
One of the most easily remedied eye diseases is cataracts. This occurs when the lens in front of the eye starts to get cloudy. It feels a bit like looking through milky glass and the patient will eventually only be able to see light and dark, with no details discernable. There are operations to correct this but the patient will have to wait until the eye is almost completely blind before this can be done.
The eye doctor will be able to spot this problem immediately and advise on the next course of action. In some cases he can refer the patient to the correct specialist and generally give a time scale of when the patient should expect to be operated upon.
The eye doctor can also spot glaucoma, which is a build up of pressure within the eye. If anyone has had an eye examination, this test comprises of having a puff of air blown onto the eyeball itself and machines will detect if the pressure is at the correct level. This tends to be an age related problem so regular check ups once over a certain age is recommended.
Even diabetes has become more prevalent in the western world and is now catching up in third world countries. The body is unable to process sugar and the patient may need to be put on insulin eventually. The eyes are particularly affected in diabetic patients and they need very regular check ups if eye damage is to be avoided. These are necessary for the eyes to remain in good condition.
Connor Sullivan recently visited a Grand Blanc MI optometrist when he was traveling on business. He ordered new eyeglasses from a Sandusky MI optometrist while he was there.
